Summer in Tuscany, Valdichiana Senese, between events and experiences

A land to be discovered in its most beautiful season, with events and experiences

There are many reasons to visit Tuscany and Valdichiana Senese in the summer. The thousand shades of yellow of the landscapes, but not only that: the historic centers are crowded and particularly lively, the long days allow you to enjoy all the experiences that the area has to offer and the many events offer surprises and create excitement. In short, this season there is no shortage of opportunities to explore this land in a different way and to get to know the communities who live here.

Cetona

In Cetona, summer is the season in which the village becomes more exclusive than ever. Always a place of retreat for many fascinating characters, who find peace and beauty here, Cetona is the perfect place for a summer getaway. The surroundings of the village are no less fascinating: Cetona is located on the slopes of a mountain of the same name, an area to be explored with excursions in search of prehistoric traces. For those who travel to meet local communities and discover their traditions, the opportunity not to be missed is the Corsa delle brocche (from 21 to 23 and from 28 to 30 July): a curious historical re-enactment that takes place entirely in the central Piazza Garibaldi.

Chianciano Terme

The spa town retains its charm all year round, with the beneficial and regenerating waters that attract visitors both in winter and in summer. Various bathing stations explore all the profiles of wellness, paying attention to the body and spirit: the waters of the Theia thermal pools have an anti-inflammatory action on the musculoskeletal system and on the skin, while the Sensory Spas with their treatments are the ideal place for who needs to indulge in a moment of tranquility after a long month of stress and commitments. Spas and more are the focus of ViviChianciano: the event, scheduled for the first weekends of September - from 7 to 10 and from 14 to 17 - will allow you to discover the area also through walks, horse riding, food and wine tastings.

Chiusi

Summer in Chiusi means conviviality, in a village that rediscovers its traditions and celebrates a very long past, full of stories to tell, without losing sight of contemporary suggestions. Of course, a trip here is not a trip without investigating the precious Etruscan heritage, which can be examined in depth in the museums scattered along the historic centre. A heritage that can also be enjoyed by the little ones, with experiences designed specifically for them. However, summer in Chiusi is not only archeology but also music: the Lars Rock Fest, from 7 to 9 July, establishes itself more and more every year as a festival of national appeal, with many collateral initiatives such as workshops, presentations, the “Open Book" Independent Publishing Fair, the Disco Market and the Street Market.

Montepulciano

In Montepulciano, summer is the perfect time to enjoy the romantic landscapes that the Renaissance hamlet offers, under the shade of its iconic buildings. Piazza Grande takes on a whole new face and turns into a stage that hosts many events, such as Calici di Stelle, the tasting night most awaited by wine lovers, scheduled every year during the night of St. Lawrence. Summer in Montepulciano is the season that precedes the harvest: the local winemakers will open the doors of their wineries for you and will tell you about their wines, anxiously awaiting the harvest of the new grapes.

San Casciano dei Bagni

A village that has now become a destination of international appeal. The hot thermal waters, which have always welcomed travellers, in recent months have given back the famous bronzes, now on display at the Quirinale Palace (seat of the Presidency of the Italian Republic). Visiting the archaeological excavation of the Santuario Ritrovato is certainly an experience to live for those traveling this summer in Valdichiana Senese, but it is not the only reason to stop in San Casciano dei Bagni. In July and August the village hosts “La Terrazza", an interesting review that sees personalities and famous faces confront each other on contemporary issues.

Sarteano

The summer season in Sarteano is the season in which the local community, which stands out for its hospitality and cohesion, presents the rich calendar of events planned during the winter months. The symbolic occasion of the Sarteanese summer is certainly the Giostra del Saracino, the jousting tournament that every August 15th brings together the citizens in the main square of the hamlet, divided into the five districts. A guided tour of the historic center is undoubtedly the best way to get to know this village and fully immerse yourself in its atmosphere.

Sinalunga

In Sinalunga, summer becomes magical with the Incantaborgo (14-16 July), a festival that includes acrobatic and theatrical performances. This event is an opportunity to visit the historic center, which hides many pearls, from the Palazzo Pretorio to the Ciro Pinsuti Theater. But the best known face of Sinalunga is certainly the rural one, made up of historic farms and panoramic roads. The Sinalunghese countryside is also the natural habitat of the white giant of the Valdichiana, the highly prized Chianina.

Torrita di Siena

Walking in the intimate and cozy hamlet of Torrita, one would hardly think that one of the most prestigious blues music festivals on the national scene is held here. And instead, this charming historic center has been hosting the Torrita Blues for 35 years, whose concerts are staged this year from 22 to 24 June. For those who prefer the quiet of a walk in nature to music, a walk in the direction of the nearby village of Montefollonico is recommended, along the suggestive Sentiero del Vin Santo.

Trequanda

Trequanda is a perfectly intact Tuscan village, which retains an absolutely unique atmosphere of authenticity. It is difficult to arrive here by chance, but the journey undertaken is absolutely repaid upon arrival, among excellent quality food and wine products (oil, in particular) and pieces of craftsmanship resulting from a mastery of the past. But Trequanda is also a welcoming community: if you are here on the evening of 22 July, you can take part in the "Cena in piazza dell'ospite" (i.e. dinner in the square with the guests), an occasion designed to unite residents and travelers present in the area.
