Visit of Reinassance in Sarteano, birthplace of Pope Pius III
Guided walk in the hamlet of Sarteano with entrance at Chiesa di San Martino in Foro and to the Palazzo Todeschini Piccolomini
Sarteano is a village full of rare pearls and with this tour you will discover them together with an expert guide. The walk in the historic center of the village will be a real leap into the Tuscan Renaissance with a visit to the Church of San Martino in Foro to admire the famous Annunciation painted in 1545 by Domenico Beccafumi. This is the last public work of the eternal Sienese painter and sculptor, a pupil of Perugino and author, among others, of some masterpieces of the floor of the Cathedral of Siena.
Walk through the town to see it with the eyes of two famous inhabitants of the past: Domenico Beccafumi and Pope Pius III
But the surprises in Sarteano are not finished and by opening a door in Via dei Goti you will enter Palazzo Todeschini Piccolomini, the birthplace of Pope Pius III, former Archbishop of Siena and nephew of Pope Pius II, famous to be the visionary creator of Pienza as we know it today. Pope Pius III, born Francesco Nanni Todeschini Piccolomini, was Pope of the Roman church only for a few weeks, but he left an indelible imprint of the history of the Sienese Renaissance in Sarteano, which can now be visited in the house museum.
The guided tour of the Tuscan village cannot miss a walk to the medieval castle and to conclude the experience there will be a tasting of typical Tuscan products made in the area.
