Fermento in Torrita di Siena: where craft beer and artisan cheese meet.

The experience that reveals the most authentic side of taste.

Some pairings seem simple only until you really start to understand them.

Beer and cheese, for example.

Two different worlds, at least at first glance. Then you taste them together and realise they have a lot in common: they are products that breathe and come to life thanks to the patience and passion of people who truly know their craft.

This is where Fermento was born, in Torrita di Siena, in the Valdichiana Senese: a tribute to two emblematic Tuscan flavours, the event where “craft beer and artisan cheese meet” in the historic centre of the village.

Why beer and cheese?

When people think of Tuscany, wine naturally comes to mind. But this land has much more to tell and offer.

There are small businesses, dairies, farms, independent breweries, artisan productions and people who work every day “behind the scenes”.

Fermento was created to give space to this less obvious encounter, which is much more natural than it might seem.

A beer can accompany a fresh cheese, lighten a more aged one or enhance specific flavours. A cheese, on the other hand, can completely change the way you perceive a beer.

Beyond simply “eating and drinking”, Fermento means learning to know and respect products, understanding how and where they are made, listening to those who produce them and discovering pairings you may never have tried before.

Producers at the heart of it

The producers are at the heart of Fermento.

Walking through the village during the event, you inevitably come across the stands of dairies and breweries, which show us that behind a craft beer or an artisan cheese there is not just a label: there are often small, independent businesses, daily and conscious choices, trials, mistakes, experience and a great deal of work.

Fermento is also about bringing people face to face with those who produce, without filters.
You can taste, ask questions, listen to the story behind a method, an ageing process, a fermentation or a pairing.

And perhaps leave with a different idea of what “local product” truly means.

FERMENTO and Torrita di Siena

Fermento lives within a setting such as Torrita di Siena, which makes the event even more special: its streets, taverns, districts and squares become an integral part of the experience. You walk, explore, eat, drink and move from one stop to another.

In this way, visitors to Fermento's visitors become true Torrita “locals”, immersed in the surrounding atmosphere.

Live music and other activities frame the event and help participants feel part of the “Fermento” ecosystem, while also discovering a lesser-known side of Torrita.

An event for everyone

Fermento is not designed only for experts.

It can appeal to those who already know beer and cheese, but also to those who simply want to enjoy a different evening, taste good things and learn something new.

That is the best part: you may arrive for a beer and a tasting and find yourself talking with a producer about milk, fermentations, hops or ageing.

No formalities. No need to know everything beforehand.

Fermento is all this and much more, but it cannot really be described any further: you have to be there, discover it and live it — and we hope you will be the next to experience it.
