In the Heart of Craftsmanship and Olive Oil in Trequanda
Between ancient terracotta jars and olive oil tastings: a cultural and gastronomic journey
A tour that guides you through one of the oldest and most distinctive traditions of the Valdichiana Senese: the one that connects the mastery of the terracotta artisans of Petroio with the production of Trequanda’s extra virgin olive oil, a nationally recognized excellence.
Among hand-shaped ceramics and the fragrance of freshly pressed oil, you will experience a journey that reveals a territory where craftsmanship, landscape, and taste come together in perfect harmony.
What to expect
Your experience begins in Petroio, a village renowned for its centuries-old tradition of clay working. At the Museo della Terracotta, you’ll discover how, over time, the artisans’ expertise gave life to jars, vessels, and containers used in everyday life and in the preservation of local food products.
Surrounded by ancient tools, original forms, and testimonies of manual skills passed down through generations, you’ll understand why terracotta jars were essential for storing olive oil and how this relationship between material and food helped shape the identity of the area.
From raw material to the table: the tour continues in the Trequanda countryside to learn everything about the local extra virgin olive oil.
At a local farm, a producer will welcome you and explain cultivation and pressing techniques—from caring for the olive trees to selecting the varieties.
The guided tasting will help you discover the aromas, textures, and pairings of extra virgin olive oil, ending with a final sample that reveals all the richness of the landscape it comes from.
