Pici Festival
From the 23th to the 25th of May, Celle sul Rigo hosts the festival dedicated to the traditional Tuscan dish
A recurring event nearly half a century old, an almost sacred occasion for the community of Celle sul Rigo (San Casciano dei Bagni). The inhabitants of the village and the local Società Filarmonica di Celle sul Rigo celebrate once again the pici tradition, the handmade pasta typical of the area, a simple dish that has always gathered around the table the communities of the Valdichiana Senese. After the recognition of the Italian Touring Club, at the end of 2022 the pici di Celle also acquired a collective brand, confirming the value of this production.
Every year, many weeks before the festival, the "creation" of this pasta begins, a long and laborious process. The inhabitants of the village knead and shape the pici by hand one by one, until, during the last Sundays of May, thousands of succulent and tasty dishes are offered during the festival, well flavored with Valdichiana garlic sauce or meat sauce, prepared according to original peasant recipes.
