Two lakes to discover in Tuscany

LAKE CHIUSI AND LAKE MONTEPULCIANO ARE TWO PLACES TO SEE (AND LIVE) IF YOU ARE IN VALDICHIANA SENESE. WALKING OR CYCLING, FOR A PICNIC WITH FRIENDS OR FOR RELAXING, THE TWO LAKES ARE IDEAL FOR NATURE LOVERS.

THE LAKE OF CHIUSI

Bordering on nearby Umbria, is the second lake of Tuscany for surface extension. Surrounded by rushes, which once were extremely large, on its shores you can find plenty of white and yellow varieties of water lilies, along with fishes and water birds of all kinds, such as herons, swans, and ducks, as well as pheasants, hares and wild boars, who live undisturbed in the surroundings of the lake. You can comfortably sunbathe lying on the meadow, or on the pier that drifts from the shores further off into the water. For ecological and environmental reasons, it is forbidden to use motor boats, but if you want to explore the lake you can rent small rowing boats. Discover and live this fascinating place with the Yoga lesson on the shore of Etruscan lake with a picnic by Valdichiana Living.

THE LAKE MONTEPULCIANO

It is at a very short distance from the border with Umbria. The lake covers an area of 70 hectares, and it is maximum 3 meters deep. Visits to this open-air museum are set as an opportunity to get in touch with the natural and cultural aspects of the site. At the Visitor Center “La Casetta”, you can see with your own eyes the objects of the local fishermen, or rent bicycles and book guided hiking tours, on foot, or on a small boat equipped with an electric motor powered by photovoltaic panels. Following the birdwatching trail that drifts into the water in the midst of the rushes, you can admire the whole expanse of the lake. In front of the visitor center, you will find a picnic area equipped with tables and benches of wood.
