Celle sul Rigo : a village at work for the Pici Festival

IT HAS BEEN 50 YEARS SINCE CELLE SUL RIGO, A SMALL VILLAGE OUTSIDE OF SAN CASCIANO DEI BAGNI, STARTED CELEBRATING THE PICI FESTIVAL. THE WHOLE VILLAGE PARTICIPATES IN THE ORGANIZATION OF THE EVENT. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE? BY DOING A BIT OF EVERYTHING, BUT ABOVE ALL, APPICIARE [I.E. PREPARING AND POUNDING THE DOUGH FOR THE PICI].

For the last 50 years this joyful festival has been set apart for its exceptional Pici, but also the teamwork of all the inhabitants of Celle. Every resident is ready to roll up their sleeves for the most important festival of the year.

While you are reading this article, in Celle someone has already been appiciando for several days. Housekeepers, both women and men of all generations, after carving out some free time, return to the kitchen of the Philharmonic Society, once a barn connected to the adjacent building, the Palace of the Count, to prepare the Pici.

Every picio worthy of being served during this festival must be rigorously handmade. Because of this, there is a large need for teamwork before the event begins. Hundreds of visitors, Italians and foreigners alike, during the days of the  festival go to the village Celle sul Rigo, the last Tuscan outpost before entering the territory of Lazio, to prepare the Pici.

Making  Pici for the inhabitants of Celle is never tiring, never a disturbance, but a joy; proud to contribute to such an event so significant to the town, as well as being one of the most important culinary events in Valdichiana Senese (the local region).

The last weekend of May, follow the signs towards San Casciano dei Bagni and Celle sul Rigo, the Pici festival is waiting to see you!
