Women and Wine: from the Etruscans to today

In Valdichiana Senese, the combination of women and wine has a centuries-old history

From Etruscan women to contemporary women, the Valdichiana Senese has always been a land of brilliant, freethinking and independent women. From archaeological finds that tell us about a worldly Etruscan woman, lover of life's pleasures, to the women of today, who keep the Valdichiana and its winemaking tradition alive: you will discover just how charming the feminine face of this area of Tuscany is.

Women of the past, women of the present

You will visit the Civic Archaeological Museum of Chianciano Terme, paying particular attention to the section dedicated to women in the Etruscan world. You will discover how the ancient inhabitants of the Valdichiana Senese, revelers and libertines, loved not only jewels and perfumed oils but also wine, which flowed abundantly during banquets and parties in which they used to take part.  The combination of women and wine continues to retain its charm even today in this area: by visiting a winery in Montepulciano run by women, you will understand how the femininity is the trait d'union that unites wine, art and architecture to create a unique place.
