Bico

The humble bread of Valdichiana Senese

The "bico" is a typical bread from Piazze, a hamlet of Cetona in the province of Siena. It is a humble, ancient bread baked in a wood-fired oven. Originally made only with water and flour, over the years and with increasing prosperity, it has been enriched with sourdough, oil, salt, and can be filled with a variety of ingredients, from local cured meats to cheeses, offering endless savory and sweet variations.

If you're curious to taste this unique product, every year between June and July, a festival is organized in Piazze to celebrate this ancient delicacy.
